Hapi is the personification of the annual innundation of the River Nile, and was called 'master of the river bringing vegetation'. He protects the lungs of the deceased (held in canopic jars).
Hapi is depicted as a human with pendulous breasts, wearing aquatic plants on his head. The canpoic jar which had a baboon head shaped lid was associated with Hapy.
As with the Nile innundation which left deposits of fertile soil which could then be farmed, Hapy was associated with grain fertility.
