About

Alternate Names: Amaunet, Amonet, Amentet

Amenet's name means 'hidden one', and Her shadow among the Neter is considered to be a strong symbol for protection. She is predominantly consort of Amun, and was regarded as a tutelary deity of the pharaoh's. She is considered to be a mother goddess, as well as a creator.

She is sometimes depicted as a snake, or a snake head upon the crown of Lower Kemet. A statue which has been discovered shows Amenet as a woman wearing the Red Crown of the Delta which dates back to Tutankhamun's reign. This statue was discovered in the Record Hall of Thutmosis III at Karnak.

Amun and Amenet are the only Names to have developed major cults outside their role of creator deities.
